How To Build Your Own Keyhole Garden

September 26, 2018

Keyhole_completed

The Keyhole Garden concept is brilliantly simple. A circular raised bed has a center compost basket that distributes nutrients to the surrounding  garden bed. A small pie-slice section of the bed is used for easy access to the center compost basket forming the keyhole design

Kitchen and garden waste, along with household gray water, are added to the center basket. The soil bed layers are slightly sloped away from the center to aid water and”compost tea”distribution. As the materials decompose, soil, composting materials, and amendments are added to the bed in later growing seasons

Having a worm compost bin is also called vermicomposting, and it’s done with red wrigglers, or Eisenia fetida. In case their wriggly cuteness isn’t reason enough, they offer some of the richest compost available, and a great way to deal with your kitchen scraps without leaving the kitchen, especially if you don’t have space for an outdoor compost pile.

Even a small amount of worm bin compost, or castings, is a huge benefit in creating a healthy organic garden. Also if it hits the fan you could always eat the worms for much needed protein.

Propagation Of Fruit Bearing Trees By Air-Layering

September 20, 2018

The problem with growing fruit trees from seeds is that it may take very long to bear fruits – some times more than ten years – and there is no guarantee that the fruits will taste same as the one from which you got the seeds.

Air-layering is one method of propagating a fruit tree from an existing one, which will bear fruits sooner, and the fruits will taste same as the mother-plant.
