Here are two short videos from Tim at Everyday Tactical Vids (make sure you LIKE his Facebook page) about lighting fires in the wilderness. One shows how to start a fire with cattails and the other using birch bark. Both are short, to the point, and well worth watching.
Tips and techniques like these can make all the difference if you are stuck out in the wild.
When you are travelling through the wilderness, it is well worth gathering tinder materials such as cattails, old man’s beard and birch bark, as you see them. You can then store them and keep them dry for when you need them. It is always best to have some dry tinder with you, rather than having to rely on finding some when you make camp.
