Are you prepared for the possible economic collapse of society? Many people watch TV shows like Domesday Preppers and assume that preppers are just paranoid obsessives… The thing is – with regards and economic collapse, no one can say 100% that it can’t/won’t happen, it might seem unlikely, but it can’t be ruled out.

With this in mind, does it not then make sense to do some simple things and take some precautions, to help protect and care for your family, just in case? Some simple things such as storing some food and water, stocking up on medical and hygiene supplies, ensure you have flashlights and batteries, and lighters/matches. These are all simple, low cost things you could do, which could make all the difference, if the worst should happen. Check out the link below for a list of 25 things you can do to be more prepared for an economic collapse.

5 Financial Moves You Should Be Making (But Probably Aren’t)

September 25, 2013

As it always seems to be the case – the rich are getting richer and the poor are staying poor, or getting poorer…

We can all complain and bang on about this, or we can get proactive about improving our own financial situation. Most of us know we could be making better financial decisions, like paying off some debt rather than buying new stuff. Problem is buying stuff makes us happy in the short term and makes us temporarily forget about the debt. Also, saving money and paying off debt is boring and easy to just keep putting off… There is not a person reading this post who couldn’t do something, no matter how small, to save some money. Check out the excellent post below for some advice and motivation on five financial things we should all be doing.

Disaster Preparedness Advice For Diabetics

September 25, 2013

Millions of people worldwide have either type 1 or type 2 diabetes, which in most cases is controlled with diet and medications. Many diabetics, especially those who are into prepping and emergency preparedness, are rightly concerned about how they would cope without access to insulin and other medications.

Below is a post written by Dr. Bones (aka Joe Alton, M.D from Doom And Bloom) all about disaster preparedness for diabetics.  Actually it is more than just a post, it is part of a series of posts about diabetes in survival situations.  There is even a very interesting post about how to make insulin, which could be very relevant, post SHTF. If you or a family member are diabetic, I recommend reading the whole series of posts.

You guys loved the:  How To Build A Clay Oven (Tutorial) post we did a while back, so when I saw this awesome tutorial on how to build a simple Adobe oven, I knew it would go down well too!

This DIY Adobe/Horno oven couldn’t be simpler to build – it has an internal structure of old bricks, which is then covered with a mixture of mud and grass. Check out the tutorial below for step by step photos.  I am not sure if this oven would stand the test of time, but it is so quick and easy to build, you could build a new one each year. Also, be sure to check out Peter’s Etsy store: NorthernWoodsCrafts.

I think lots of people are put off canning because they think you need a load of expensive equipment to get started.  This is just not true… Sure, if you are going to be doing lots of canning on a regular basis, you’ll probably want to invest in some canning equipment. However if you are only going to can infrequently, or if you’re just starting out, you can easily make/adapt kitchen equipment you already have.
