How To Start A Fire With A Chapstick

Check out our awesome Facebook page and stay up to date with what's new!

Ok, firstly the title of the post is a little misleading… You can’t really start a fire with just a chapstick, but if you have some kind of ignition source such as a firesteel or matches, a chapstick can dramatically increase your chances of getting a fire going in even the worst conditions.

Loads of folks have a Chapstick (or similar brand) in their pocket, even some of you guys (I know I do!). This is a great technique for those not so practised in starting fires in the wilderness or those caught out in a survival situation, unprepared in terrible conditions.

In the video they use the Chapstick with cotton balls, but you can use it with any other good tinder material. If you have nothing else, cotton from a t-shirt or jumper works well, just make sure you work the Chapstick into the cotton as shown in the video.

I love your posts. However, I do not enjoy coming to view a survival trick or product and seeing the wrong wing GOP political postings as well. Obama has NEVER in any way, threatened to “ban” guns. Many sensible people myself included, who own guns & support our 2nd Amendment rights, agree it is time to regulate certain aspects of who can own what weapons and amunition. Perhaps, if we had maintained “a well regulated militia” these regulations would not be necessary. However, background checks, mental health screenings, and the end to the Gun Show exemption is not a “ban” on guns. To view it as such is at least a little paranoid, which may explain why some people are SO worried about the potential for a mental health evaluation as a prerequisite for gun ownership or concield carry permits….

Hey Josh – I am not sure where you have seen this on my website. I try to remain neutral with all things political or religious. Where did you see this information on the website?

    Hey KWN,
The anti Obama ad appears immediately below the text about the video, and immediately above the beginning if this comment section. It is right after the words “just make sure you work the Chapstick into the cotton as shown in the video.” It is a picture of Obama, scowling, and it says “Obama says BAN Guns. Say No” and then “click here to fight back”.

I agree with Josh, your web site is great and the info is awesome, and your videos are also great, but I could do without the biased political ad.

Sorry about this, the ads are from Google ads and I have little control over them. The only thing I can do is stop individual websites from advertising on my website. If you can email me the URL for the ad/website I will add it to the banned list.

I’m always amazed how the most ‘tolerant’ among us are always the first to say that anything they don’t agree with should be shut down. It’s never an option that they exercise their abilities as an adult to accept that there are other opinions than their own, only that it shouldn’t be allowed. I come to this site for the information you share. I’ve linked your articles on my own page a number of times, and honestly couldn’t care less if you were running massive ads on the top of your page advertising Obama, or anyone else. As a grown up, I am fully capable of getting the info I came here for, and passing it on as needed.

    • MOS☼redrum says:

Yep. I don’t think I could agree more. Good luck going anywhere on the web, tv or real life that is free of politics or things you disagree with.
If you spend your time searching for things you disagree with, that’s about all you’ll find.

If you ban any ad’s that are associated from your face book postings face book will remove you from posting in their site. Face book is paid for the ad’s that are posted on their site and under your agreement to post of face book they are entitled to post any ad’s they see fit. I am a broker and have a business account with face book as well as my personal account, and tried on several occasions to have face book remove ad’s that I did not authorize, their response was to inform me that my ad’s for my business would not be posted as well. So good luck, however if your going to change the format of your postings to please to in my opinion jack asses whom just want to bitch please inform the rest of us that are grown up enough to over see these ad’s as nt in your control so we can look elsewhere for information. And if people are not grown up enough to over look what cannot be in your control they personally they need to look elsewhere. I am a veteran whom has served my country many years and because I have PTSD was just informed by Obama and the VA that I can no longer own the firearms that I presently do own. If that is not banning legal citizens from owning weapons then I do not know what it is.

Oh, for pete’s sake! If ya don’t like an ad–ignore it! Why bring this up at all? Who cares? Great info KWN! Love this site.

  6. Dawn says:

The ad on my end is for Scales, a brand of liquor. The page owner has no control over what ads Google use. If this site is a popular site getting many hits, then Google will use ads that they are paid to use. And by the way, love..love your page.

  7. Jesse says:

It’s coming up as an ad to help kids with cleft palates now. Creepy picture, but much better than the anti-Obama rhetoric. Not sure if that was you or just random Google-shuffling. If it was you, thanks!

tell him to blow it out his a$$ and go somewhere else if he doesn’t like it. there are plenty of people that agree with the president on other issues and would even entertain some of his gun ideas but know that a so called assault weapons ban would do nothing productive

More Oboober Lovers! Enjoy your time in hell with him when he drags you all down there with him!

  10. Kelly says:

Oh come on people, get over yourself already. Don’t read it if you don’t like it..

Mine has an ad for an animal hospital in San Antonio
under the video. So it must vary from person to person.

  12. MOS☼redrum says:

    Thanks man,
    That’s a pretty cool idea.

If you really don’t believe Obama not trying to disarm America then why are you here! Great site K.W.N.

I am here because I have always, since childhood, enjoyed fieldcraft, not because of any political scare tactics fed to me by any political party or interest group. If you are here because of that: 1) Get your head right, these political games are just that, games and rhetoric, meant to instill fear to achieve political gain and 2) Enjoy the skills and outdoors for what they are and not because you believe in an impending apocolypse. In the 40′s it was the Nazi’s or Japan (a more real threat than anything today I might add), the 50′s thru 80′s it was the Cold War nuclear threat, now we have people believing they should fear their own Government, and for what? I think out of sheer boredom. Unless we are afraid I guess we do not know how to function, really? I would rather live my life. Enjoy the outdoors. Great site KWN!
