Wattle fences, traditionally made from willow, have been in use since medieval times. With posts made of sturdy willow or pine, and smaller, flexible willow or pine suckers or saplings.

Material-wise, it is an inexpensive option for fencing, garden walls, screens, or even raised bed planters because most of the material is repurposed from trimmings. Labor-wise, it is truly handmade and will take some time but will produce wonderfully varied, organic results. See how to make your own below
